lntroduce Douglas : I want to introduce my co-host for tonight Dougles E. Welch from www.welchwrite.com. Douglas is a fellow Friends In Tech dot com member, and one of the most sound, intellegent and influencial voices for me when it comes to all things having to do with computer business for Small office or home office, opinions about new media and over all awareness of what producers like my self should be aware of.
Douglas is the producer and hosts the Career Opportunities show, A Gardeer's Notebook blog, as well as the technology IQ showt and the Careers in Podcasting show. Welcome to the Show Douglas.

*Nearly 25 years in some form of consulting - paid and unpaid
- 5 years at Walt Disney Imagineering
- a large use of macs, but always under pressure to not use them
- 1982 - College - Apple II user
- Started helping people then
- PC User at Work (CP/M on a Kaypro 10, too)
- Mac Plus and so on
- Currently using Mac Mini Intel Duo
SoHo Mac
- Ping-pong upgrades from MS
- Lack of backup strategies, but more and more data
- Still some areas i.e. medical, etc where PC software is required
- Seeing move, slowly to web-based/hosted apps
- This works if they don't require IE
- More and more support for Mac in SoHo
- Network pritners
- Mac/Win interoperability
- Web-based solutions

- I have dealt with more switchers than ever the last 2 years
- Vista drove some people to the Mac
- Personal recommendations drove others

Preparing for Leopard
- When do you need to upgrade?
- G4 machines? - My recommendation is NO
- Prefer to by machine designed for new OpSys
- Use existing computer until you can't anymore
- In Place upgrades vs Erase and Install
- Most of my clients would have to call me to do an Erase and Install
- I will probably do an Erase and Install or purchase a new machine with Leopard
- Would like to move to a laptop as my sole machine
